Sunday School @ Faith UCC - A Joyful Path

At Faith UCC, we teach Children and Youth that their spiritual lives are life-long journeys of discovery and transformation and that their spiritual lives are interconnected with every single other aspect of their lives.  Because of that, we feel that any curriculum that we use must be progressive in nature and allow children and youth to engage their spirituality honestly in a modern sense - where the focus is not on 'belief and doctrine,' but focused instead on loving one's neighbor, showing compassion, celebrating diversity and holding sacred the earth.  Therefore, we utilize a powerful curriculum created by 'The Center for Progressive Christianity' called "A Joyful Path."  According to well known author and progressive theologian Rev. John Shelby Spong, who endorses this program fully - "The great need in the Christian church is for a Sunday school curriculum for children that does not equate faith with having a pre-modern mind."

This progressive curriculum for children 6-10 focuses on topics such as:

The Stories of our Tradition: The Bible and How We Use It
A Spiritual Teacher: The Jesus Story
The Nameless one: Who or What is God?
The Dangerous Road: Connecting with Kindness
The Christmas Surprise: Experiencing God as Love
The New Neighborhood: Loving Others Through Service
A Drop of Water: Stillness
Standing Tall: Palm Sunday
New Life: Easter
One Love: Inclusion
She is Everywhere: God in Nature

Children's Outreach Ministry

The Sunday School Kids decided a year ago that they would like to help out other kids, just like them, whose families are struggling financially and are unable to have, as they put it, "nice clothes for school!"  In conjunction with the Sunday School Teachers, as well as our Outreach Coordinator, they decided to collect, sort, fold and drop off new and gently used children and youth clothing to nearby shelters and thrift shops.

There is a bin in the Sunday School Room if you would like to make a donation.  As the kids say, 'if you are at the store, and see a deal on kids clothes, pick up a few articles and drop them in the bin!'

If you have any questions about our Children's Ministry or Childcare, please contact Pastor Mike.
